Seven Months

Griffin Sawyer was 7 months old on Sunday!
He is just the most amazing little guy. Just looking at his little face melts my heart.

Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

A few nights ago I was taking off Griffin's bibs to put on pjs and found a puff. I most certainly did not eat it instead of throwing it away because there was no trash can nearby and I could not leave him unattended on the changing table. Yes I know I could have throw it away later but it was just easier to eat it. It tasted like banana!

Happy Mother's Day

What makes a person a mother? Well the obvious answer is having a child, or is it? Just because someone gives birth I am not so sure that makes them a mother. There are plenty of mothers who did not physically give birth to their children. Merriam Webster online defines a mother as a female parent. I think this is a good definition. A parent is defined as one that begets or brings forth offspring or a person that brings up and cares for another. Personally I think mothers are a special breed. I believe God had a special design for females/mothers. As mothers we have special abilities and roles. We mothers have an endless supply of love for our children. When it seems everyone else has tired, given up, or forgotten a mother will still be there. So Happy Mother's day to all the mothers who have:

-felt the pains of labor and given birth

-waited for a child through adoption

-stayed up all night with a sick child

-sacrificed something they wanted or needed so they could provide for their child

-answered all the why questions

-packed lunches and snacks

-kissed boo boos better

-helped with homework

-sang to their child

-fought for their child to receive the services and therapies they deserve

-taught their child something

-waited for a diagnosis for a sick child

-become a better person for their child

-prayed for the future for their child

-said "I love you"

-read their child a book

-stayed out in the rain to watch your child at a sporting event

-set curfews and boundaries

-coached a team their child was on

-said no when it would have been much easier to say yes

If you are a mother, enjoy your day and keep being a wonderful mother!

Ear Plugs

Take a look at Sydney's new ear plugs!

My sister told me about these plugs and so we went to the audiologist that works at our ENT's office and Sydney was fitted for these custom made ear plugs. Sydney was able to pick the colors and she selected blue and green swirl. They are cute and will be great for this summer with all the pool swimming and the 2 beach trips we have planned. The ear plugs float which is awesome because Sydney is a water baby.

Her plugs matched the pjs she had one but we are going to try to find a bathing suit with blue and green. Gramie la la bought Syd a green cover up so Syd will be very fashionable.

Sydney 6 Months

Sydney at 6 months weighed 18 lbs 4 oz and 27 inches long. She was just so beautiful and feminine.

Bring on the Veggies

Here is my macho husband after clearing this section of our property in preparation for raised beds. This spot was basically covered in some flowering ground cover and managed to collect lots of golf balls.

Garret and Bill working on building first raised bed.

Huge pile of top blend to fill beds, we lost count of how many wheel barrow loads it took to move dirt to beds.

Sydney helping daddy move dirt. Notice the tongue.

One bed filled, not yet planted.

One garden planted and Sydney watering.

Isn't see adorable?

Both beds filled, planted and ready. The first bed (left) cucumbers, kohl rabi, and peppers- one green, one red, one yellow, and one other kind I cannot remember now. The second bed has zucchini, green beans, and tomatoes - 2 early girls, 1 cherry and 1 roma.

The kids and I by finished beds- please disregard my look. Actually if it was a close up photo I would tell you to ignore the spit up on my shirt. Sydney has the daycare look going- dirty and bad hair. Oh well we are a happy.

The Things She Says

My child says the funniest things. Sometimes we know exactly where she is pulling her info from and other times we think where did she ever hear that?

So I picked up both kids from daycare and on the way home we are talking about Sydney's day. We stopped at a light and there was a construction crew working, one of the workers was smoking a cigarette.

Sydney says, "Oh no that man is smoking (sounds like moking) a cigarette. He is making a bad choice and is going to lose his privileges."

I reply "Yes, he is making a bad choice."

Syd says "we do not smoke (moke) cigarettes and we do not burn animals with cigarettes." (I have no idea where this burning animals comment came from. Then she says "We don't peel animals either! We can peel onions or oranges or bananas but not animals."

At this point the expression on my face is hilarious, I am shocked and also trying not to laugh at the same time. Please understand we do not watch a lot of TV at our house and usually the TV is off in the evenings when I am with the kids. Bill and I watch TV after the kids are in bed but I am very cautious about what is on when the kids are up and also in general. I am not a big fan of TV and I think most shows that are on TV are junk. I do like discovery health and food network. We also do not hunt. We have never talked about peeling animals.

Last week I got a phone call from the daycare at work. It was Sydney's teacher, Mrs Ross calling to tell me about an incident. Sydney was hanging on her leg while out on the playground and Mrs Ross actually fell over and fell on Sydney. Mrs Ross said that it knocked the wind out of Syd but she did not cry. She felt every bone in her body to make sure nothing hurt. Sydney was fine but she wanted me to know what happened. I really do appreciate the care my children receive. I have told Sydney 100 times not to hang on my legs because I am afraid she will pull me over, this was an issue when I was holding Griffin and he was so small. So later that day on the way home I asked Sydney about her day and if anything happened.

Her response "no"

Me "did anything happen to Mrs. Ross today?"

Syd says "Oh yes she fell over."

Me "why did she fall over?"

Sydney "Because I was hanging on her leg."

Me "Did she fall on you?"

Syd "yes, but I'm okay."

Me "well Mrs Ross has a sore arm now"

Syd "what did her mom say about her arm?"

Me " I do not know."

Syd "does she have a mom"

Me "I am sure she does but she lives with her husband."

Syd "Is her husband a girl or a boy?"

Me "Husbands are boys, like mommy is married to daddy and I am a girl and daddy is a boy and we are married"

Syd "Yeah your married and when you get married you have a baby."

At this point I attempted to explain that some people are married and do not have any babies and some people have babies but are not married. Then I proceeded to change the subject.
