I wanted to do something special for Bill's birthday so I looked through a file I keep on places to go in NC. I had tore out a write up from Southern Living on Mozelle's in Winston Salem and it sounded yummy. The place was not fancy but it was cozy, welcoming and the service and food were excellent. The chef came out and checked on each table.
Our friends kept the kids for a few hours so we could enjoy some time just the two of us. I loved this mosaic on the wall.
We shared fried pickles as an appetizer
I ordered the angus cheeseburger with pimento cheese and a side of tomato bisque, Bill ordered the grilled pimento cheese and bacon sandwich with soup- we split our sandwiches and it was delicious.
After lunch we walked around and went in a few gift shops and art galleries
It was nice to have time to talk and hold hands and not be interrupted. The kids had a blast at our friends and were disappointed when we got back to pick them up.
Sunday Bill had to work at a convention so the kids and I went to church and then worked on a special birthday dinner. Sydney helped peel potatoes
Griffin mixed the brownies
We all chipped in and made a banner that said "welcome home and happy birthday".
The kids wanted to eat by candlelight, it was fun. We had meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and steamed broccoli.
Dessert was brownies with ice cream and whip cream!
It was a wonderful birthday weekend and Bill said it was one of the best he can ever remember.
