Grammie La La is in town!

Yeah La la is in town. My mom and papa arrived Saturday night and it took all of 20 minutes for Sydney to warm up to La la. When I put her to bed she wanted La la to come in and give her kisses and tuck her in bed. Sydney is in her glory with La la reading every book in the house, playing in her kitchen, going for walks, taking pictures, golfing and all sorts of fun activities. Each morning when I have left Sydney has hardly given me a kiss, she is in her own world playing with La la. As soon as she is awake in the morning she is asking "where is La la". Sydney is not too sure about grandpa yet. Last year when my parents came for the week of the 4th of July grandpa helped us remodel our bathroom and he was doing a lot of banging and busting up concrete and tile. For a long time whenever we mentioned grandpa Sydney would say "bang bang". This will be the third year in a row that my parents have come to watch Sydney during the 4th because our daycare closes for the week. She loves their visits and Bill and I also enjoy time visiting. I think my mom has taken almost 300 pictures so far and she just got here! You will have to check out her blog for her postings of her visit with us once she gets home and has time to download pics...reinventingdorsey.blogspot.com

Pros and Cons of My Pregnancy

I feel very blessed with a healthy pregnancy this time around and with Sydney, however there are a few things that do not make me smile.

*heartburn- I had never had heartburn until I was pregnant, wow it can be bad! I know what foods to avoid but honestly some days I look at food and I can feel the burn. I do believe in the old wives tale -lots of heartburn- lots of hair, we will have to wait and see if it comes true this time around with our little boy.

*uncontainable cleavage- I am not sure if this is a pro or a con? Most maternity shirts are way too low cut so I find myself wearing tank tops under everything in order to keep things decent.

*cravings-I do not have any unusual cravings but I want sweets everyday all day- not good for the waste line. I also love Mexican food, fruit (especially oranges- not so good for the heartburn), peanut butter, queso and chips, hmm did I mention anything chocolate.

*glossy hair and strong nails

*miracle of pregnancy itself- feeling the baby move, nothing in the world compares. I feel so fortunate to be able to conceive and carry a child without complications. Pregnancy is a gift that no one should ever take for granted.

*gas- okay I know this is a bit personal but if you have been pregnant you understand. It probably has to do with all the fiber I consume.

*fatigue- this was bad early on but is gone now, thank goodness. Now I have that surge of energy and am motivated to do projects, organizing etc. I have run out of things to work on right now.

*frequent trips to the bathroom- especially when he is kicking my bladder!

*sleeping issues- I want to sleep on my back so bad!!! I like sleeping on my side but now that it is the only option I want to lay on my back.

*difficulty painting toenails -what a challenge! Instant heartburn when I bend over! I should just treat myself to pedicure but I am too frugal to pay someone to do something that I can do myself.

I am sure there are more pros and cons, and there are plenty of things yet to come- such as swelling and back pain, however I am still overjoyed to be pregnant and I am attempting to soak up each and every moment of what might be my last pregnancy. The above picture is me 8 months pregnant with Sydney.

PUT ON YOUR MASK!

Well it has happened, swine flu has hit my office. I did not personally see the patient that tested positive but I did see a patient that was on a trip with the kid. Of course this is scary for all of us, we are taking all precautions possible. If a patient comes in with cough and fever we are having them wear a mask and I am also wearing a mask. I feel like I am back on my surgery routine with all the masks. I have been sicker this year than any recent years, which still is very healthy compared to some people. I have had strep throat this year and also the stomach virus. Since I am pregnant my immune system is not as strong as usual. I hate being sick and I do not want anymore illnesses this year. Sydney is in this oral stage lately where she is constantly putting her hands near or in her mouth. Some may call me a clean freak, but at least I am usually healthy. Everyday when we come home I wash my hands and Sydney washes her hands. I also usually get out of the clothes I wore to work since kids cough, sneeze and breath on me all day. Also I am so bad to hug on the kids, I cannot help myself. We keep sani wipes in the care and I try to give Sydney one when we get in the car after going to grocery etc. I started thinking about the library books that I just checked out and it grosses me out a bit but I am not ready to give up library books. Pray for health at our house and also our community!

Just in Time

Our baby boy has been very active the last several weeks but every time I have Bill try to feel him kick he stops. Well last night I was relaxing on the couch and our little guy was kicking so big, I yelled for Bill and he got there just in time to feel two big kicks and then someone decided to take a rest. Just in time for Father's Day! We are getting ready to head up to brunch with our friends the Parker's. Everyone enjoy the day!

Another glimpse of a miracle

Today I had the opportunity of having another US. My doctor's office may be getting a new ultrasound machine and they needed a patient in order to demo the machine, I got to be the lucky participant. I was glad to have another look at our little boy. I believe a baby inside a mother's womb is a complete miracle and it is so cool to see him kick on the screen and feel it at the exact moment. He was all curled up with his arms around his knees, so cute. I did get some pictures but not on disc so I am not able to post the photos, sorry.

Project but no photos

I am working on a big project, you can put your guess as a comment if you wish. I would show you a photo of the project so far but my camera is broke. Major bummer. I am almost lost without it. Saturday Sydney and I went to the post office and shipped the camera back to Nikon to see if they can fix the problem,"lens error" and depending on what it will cost to fix we may or may not be buying a new camera. We are going to the beach in less than a month so the real challenge is to see if we can have a camera in time to take on vacation. Could I survive a vacation without a camera? Well honestly I could survive but I would be so sad not to have captured so many great moments. Last fall when we went to Kiawah Island for a week I took over 500 photos. Of course now that my camera is broke I am thinking of all these things I need pictures of...Sydney in her new big girl bed, my project, my growing belly.... anyway I will survive. By the way isn't it cute how my baby is sucking his thumb this week? I wonder if he really is sucking his thumb. During our ultrasound he stuck his entire hand in his mouth. Sydney was never much for sucking her thumb but she did appreciate her paci.

Burlington Park

Bill's company picnic was at Burlington City Park last weekend. The park is awesome, they have a carousel, train and kiddy rides. We had a great picnic with all my husbands coworkers and their families and then got to enjoy the rides. Sydney's favorite is the carousel, she cries when it is time to get off. It was a wonderful family, fun filled day.

Picture Day

Today I took Sydney to get her picture taken at Portrait Innovations. We arrived a bit early to watch our friends get their picture taken, then we had a little wait. Well by the time it was our turn Syd was getting a bit tired of the whole scene. A guy started to set up the background and Sydney was clinging to we like glue. She would not smile and would not let go of me. I tried bribery and nothing was working. I finally told the guy, "I know you are nice but this is not working we need a lady photographer." Well all the ladies were busy so we had to schedule another time slot, go to lunch and come back. Rachel took her picture after lunch and Sydney did wonderful. I had thoughts of trying to pick one image but it was too hard to pick and since this is only the third time I have gotten her picture taken I bought a large package. Here are a few of the pics.

My little Helper

Sydney is such a good little helper. I do fear that she will grow to be a little OCD like her dad and I. She often cleans right beside me and she loves to help her dad pick up sticks in the yard and wash vehicles. On this particular day she helped Bill wash dishes and then spent at least 5 minutes scrubbing the kitchen sink without being prompted. She is such a sweet little girl.

Favorite Book

Sydney has a new favorite book. Does this sound familiar to anyone...
"and on that child there is a dog, a dozing dog on a dreaming child on a snoring granny on a cozy bed.." I have this book committed to memory! It is "The Napping House" by Audrey Wood. Sydney loves to look for the flea on each page. When the flea bites the mouse she says "we do not bite!" When the granny breaks the bed she laughs hysterically. We read this book every night!
