Two recipes, one edible and one NOT!

Chocolate, Cranberry and Oat Bars (from food and family magazine

1 cup dried cranberries

1/4 cup orange juice

1.5 cups flour (all purpose)

1.5 cups quick cooking oats

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) margarine softened

1.5 cups firmly packed brown sugar

2 eggs

4 squares semi-sweet baking chocolate, coarsely chopped (I had chips on hand)

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350. Combine cranberries and orange juice in microwaveable bowl, microwave for 30 seconds- let set. I did not have orange juice but I had fresh oranges so I grated some zest and then squeezed half of 1 orange and added water to it to make a total of 1/4 cup. Meanwhile combine flour, oats, baking powder, and salt. Beat margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating until well blended each time. Gradually add flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Fold in cranberry mixture, chocolate and pecans. Spray 13x9 pan with Pam and spread dough in pan. Bake 20-22 minutes or until starts to become golden and center is set. Let cool completely on cooling rack before cutting into squares. Makes 32 bars.

Play Dough I do not recommend eating.

1 cup flour

1.5 tsp oil

2 tsp cream of tarter

1 cup water

1/2 cup salt

Mix together in pot over medium heat, stir constantly. When dough pulls away from pan and is no longer sticky it is ready, remove from heat. Add coloring and knead while warm. So quick maybe 5 minutes and fun!

Sydney had blue mouth from a cherry candy cane

Griffin only tried to eat the play dough once, I guess it was too salty!

  1. We used to have homemade play dough all the time as kids...I loved it...and definitely snuck a few bites. I was a salt-a-holic back then...still kind of am :)
